Petco Poway: Animals for Adoption
Two adorable New Zealand White rabbits which we fostered for the House Rabbit Society for a number of months. They eventually went to a rabbit sanctuary in La Jolla.
We carried a special inventory of products recommended by the House Rabbit Society, including KW Cages, CareFresh, Timothy Pellets, etc.
This was one of many adoption and education events we sponsored. This particular one was in support of the House Rabbit Society. We had a year-round adoption and education program in place which we were quite proud of.
I opened and managed this location at 12305 Poway Road, Poway, California, from 1989 to 1995. I believe it closed in 1996 after Petco acquired Pet Supply Warehouse and converted that location further east on Poway Road.

Zebra foals playing - Zoo Hannover
From Wikipedia:
Zebras are odd-toed ungulates of the Equidae family native to eastern, southern and southwestern Africa. They are best known for their distinctive white and black stripes, which come in different patterns unique to each individual. They are generally social animals and can be seen in small harems to large herds.
Zebras are generally 2.3 m (8ft) long, stand 1.25-1.5 m (4-5ft) at the shoulder, and weigh around 300kg (660 lbs), although some can grow to more than 410 kg (900 lbs). In addition to their stripes, zebras have erect, mohawk-like manes. Unlike their closest relatives, horses and donkeys, zebras have not been truly domesticated. There are three species of zebra: the Plains Zebra, Grevy's Zebra and the Mountain Zebra. They can be found in a variety of habitats, such as grasslands, savannas, woodlands, thorny scrublands, mountains and coastal hills.
The name "zebra" comes from the Old Portuguese word zevra which means "wild ass". The pronunciation (in IPA) is /ˈzɛbrə/ (ZEB-ra) internationally, or /ˈziːbrə/ (ZEE-bra) in North America.

When being initiated in the Mankind Project, an animal name is chosen. I identified closely with the rattlesnake, but wanted to transcend that so I did a visioning exercise in which a fluffy white deer appeared and nuzzled me, inviting me to be more happy and playful. I ultimately chose the mantis shrimp as my spirit animal (I could go on and on about why) and it was confirmed to be the first mantis shrimp in Mankind Project history. It won't be long until mammals are all extinct and animals like mantis shrimp become the dominant species on the planet.

Yes, I'm a 36 year-old who still likes stuffed animals. :-)
Mabel the cow was a gift from a dear friend, and the little dog was a gift to myself. They turned out to be inseperable, and I like having them close while I'm watching TV. Call me crazy -- it's okay. :-)
